2.1 Information you provide

ShoreNova does not require account registration. We do not collect names, email addresses, or passwords.

2.2 Automatically collected information

When you use ShoreNova, we automatically collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • Referring URL
  • Country and region (not precise location)
  • Search queries entered on our search page

This data is collected via Google Analytics and is aggregated - we cannot identify you personally from this data.

2.3 Location data

ShoreNova does not request or store your precise GPS location. Country and region are inferred from your IP address for analytics purposes only.

3. How we use your information

We use collected information to:

  • Understand which beaches and features are most useful
  • Improve site performance and content
  • Detect and prevent technical errors
  • Display relevant advertisements via Google AdSense

We do not sell your data to third parties.

4. Google AdSense

ShoreNova displays advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info.

5. Third-party services

ShoreNova uses the following third-party services to deliver beach conditions, maps, and tide information:

  • Open-Meteo - live weather and ocean conditions. When your browser loads a beach page, it may contact Open-Meteo directly to retrieve current data. Your IP address may be logged by Open-Meteo in accordance with their privacy policy at open-meteo.com/privacy.
  • Geoapify - interactive maps and location services. When you view a map on ShoreNova, your browser contacts Geoapify to load map tiles. Geoapify may log your IP address in accordance with their privacy policy at geoapify.com/privacy-policy. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors.
  • NOAA CO-OPS - official tide predictions sourced from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Your browser does not contact NOAA directly.

6. Cookies

ShoreNova uses the following cookies:

  • Google Analytics - cookies for anonymous usage analytics. These expire after 2 years, 24 hours, and 1 minute respectively.
  • Google AdSense - advertising cookies used to serve relevant ads. Controlled by Google.
  • Geoapify - map tile requests may result in session cookies or local storage entries used for tile caching and rate limiting. These are set by Geoapify and are not accessible to ShoreNova.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. This may affect the display of maps and some other features.

7. Data retention

Analytics data is retained for 14 months in Google Analytics, after which it is automatically deleted. We do not maintain our own database of user activity.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

9. Children's privacy

ShoreNova is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, contact us immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ShoreNova after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
